A team shuffle between rounds meant finding the solution to problems we'd been having since the beginning of the season and with new personnel on-board, Eastern Creek would prove to us that we'd turned the corner.
Qualifying on the front row with a PB was what we were looking for however, after leading the first race, we had to retire in R2 with a driveline breakage. The #16 Chaparral/Gatorz Eyewear Racing Mazda RX7 showed better speed and stability than it had in previous rounds as a direct result of newest crew member Nigel Bolling tweaking things.
Unfortunately we couldn't have prepared for the driveline breakage and had to sit out of the last race. The positive to come out of the weekend was that even though we couldn't compete in the trophy race, the team moral was higher than we have seen it in previous months which is a sign of us heading in the right direction.
The decision has been made to sit out of the remainder of the 2009 season in a quest to sort the car out once and for all. More can be learnt from private test days than trying to learn while competing. A meeting in the next few weeks between Team Manager Matt Clarke, Team Engineer Nigel Bolling and myself as to which way would be the best way to attack things should give us a clear goal. Both Clarkee and Nigel have had decades of experience in top level motorsport teams and should have no problem directing our team in the right direction for 2010 and beyond.
I, personally would like to thank Nigel Bolling, Paul (Doggos) Cooney, Cameron Glegg, Paul (Boppa) Bartolo, Matt Clarke, Simone McIntyre, Brian Troy, Joseph (Jose) Lenthell, Bec Liehr, Julie Clarke (Taylor and Emily) plus all our sponsors, Gatorz Billet Eyewear, Torque Calibration Services, Selectmaz, Maztech of Melbourne, Go Pro Cameras, Energizer Lithium Batteries, Conetix Internet Providers, PPG Auto Paints, Revolution Racegear Auburn, KINX Hair Designs, Aussie Auto Art, Linsell Industrial Supplies and the guys from Specialized Brake and Clutch and Penrith Auto Recovery Service for all your help, encouragement and support especially over the past few weeks which have been trying for everyone. You guys give new meaning to the word 'legend'... From the bottom of my heart... Thank You... :o)
